I Can't Find A Woman Smart Enough For Me . . . Me, Neither! LOL! Three Star General, Harvard Grad, MIT Undergrad, And Military Base Top Dog! Quick Exit!
Okay, so I can scare some pretty smart fellows, trained for battle, and in military tactics, but, totally unprepared for a woman like me! I just love being me . . . it is that humanities, training and background from my undergraduate level courses, actually general ed, that prepared me for life, battle, mind games, war of the sexes, and eventual, total and utter defeat of my enemies, all males, just say no to males, as if that is necessary! They spend a few minutes, talking to me, whether from Harvard, Yale, Cornell, or Rutgers, this female, BYU law grad, can take on the world, intellectually, having climbed the top of the legal, Mt. Everest, scaling the heights of the legal, intellectual, and warfare ladder, to the United States Supreme Court, only to find, once at the top, the Court, and the Supremes, actually, borrowed, my arguments, but did not do as well a job, of rationally, explaining how they came to the right conclusion, in U.S.A. vs. Jones, but the supporting arguments, behind the 4th amendment case, were not worthy of the outcome, and like an algebraic equation, some of the logic, critical thinking and analytical steps, appeared lacking; however, the fact, that my original 65 page brief for the 10th Circuit, submitted, almost a year earlier, with the court clerks, telling me that I had to cut, 10,000 words out, to make the 14,000 word limit, with me, trying to add extra arguments in the footnotes, not thinking they counted, or that the judges, would not read them, might be the reason, the opinion in my resoundingly, solid, well thought and written, now 45 page brief, to the government's, 7 page, Dick and Jane, primer reading brief, in 14 pt. type, was not either published, nor became precedent setting . . . but, when I opened my very brilliant mouth, even the Harvard law grad, who, said, well, a degree from Harvard will get you a job, I responded by saying, it did not matter where you got your degree from, as long as afterward, you did something astounding with your law degree, which I have . . . he, left McDonald's, much faster, than it took him, obviouley knowing who I am, probably reads my blog, than it took for him to engage me in a conversation, but when I got to the nuts and bolts of law practice and my thoughts, on it, he left, probably to find the 20 year old that didn't seem to be bothered by his age, as I retorted to that comment, the neither did the huge, body builder, who locked eyes with me in the swimming pool yesterday, but a great body, does not a match made, and I am all about great looking guys, have had many in my day, but a body without a mind, attached, is not for me, and with that, his inching toward the door, turned to a run? LOL!
Great Guest Column, Missoulian, Oct. 6, 2015, B5 . . . "UM Should Renew Focus On Humanities" I Could Not Agree More!
No, I am not humble, and I will not apologize! I am trained in the humanities, and proud of it! I was, Weber State University, the team the Griz will play this weekend, in football, Humanities Student of the Year, 1986, as well as Outstanding English Major, that same year. The article, Mr. Michel Valentin, a professor at the University of Montana, wrote, seems to indicate, that as dollars are stretched, and focuses are redirected, to monies being spent, on more practical studies, with job skills and training, a measurable outcome, being focused on the maths and sciences, leaving the humanities, wanting, programs being cut, and professors, frustrated, that the traditional job of a university, used to be, learning for learning sake, or knowledge for knowledge sake! Sure, everybody, who goes to college, or most, there are a few exceptions that take the knowledge for knowledge sake a bit far, pushing it to being a life time student, as most professors, such as my self, would love to be and do, without the tests, perhaps, and only those who are supported by their parents, a trust fund, or an inheritance, can do, there is something to be said, for just plain being a fucking smart person, a William Buckley, type of person, one that dazzles people with their vocabulary, mesmerizes with their thinking, critical thoughts and paralyzing analysis . . there is tremendous worth in that!
As per my conversation with Mr. Harvard, JAG, 3 star general, and a 70 year old, and, without debate a smart man, but not to be lorded over this, less than humble, law grad and blogger extraordinaire, without intimidation, and response to his tagging his degree and diploma, connected to Harvard, although, BYU, considers itself, the Harvard of the West, and I would be proof of that claim, but a job, is not what, to me, makes, Harvard cool! It is, the movie, Paper Chase, the terror and horror, of taking a law class, taught by a brilliant professor, or taking on the challenge to stump, stop, or prevent a tirade, of the slamming on slot, of a man of letters, put on earth, just to make mince meat of law students, to prepare them for a judge of similar bent, who lives, breaths and dies, to humiliate, some less than prepared attorney, seasoned, or new to the art of practicing law. Dread, if universities, ever lose that awesome power, of cultivating the best and the brightest, some, who are late bloomers, who, only upon exposure to the vast knowledge, the power of knowledge, an amazing classic and liberal education affords, the liberating of minds, the greatest human playground, in the universe, the one that can comprehend the universe, and we have seen a few, who, not only can comprehend, but have the ability to write and speak on the subject at hand, and convey that knowledge to the rest of us, mere humans, but so much the better because of the study of the humanities!
For what good, is it, for the most, amazing, mathematician, scientist, biologist, professor of trigonometry, a gifted heart surgeon, if they, cannot, write, train, teach, and pass on, their brilliance to the next generation of students, colleagues, and scholarly journals, magazines, and reports, that spread their knowledge and gained, wisdom, of their studies, experiments, and findings, to be a benefit to the human race? I remember, reading an article, written about, movie, mogul, and billionaire, Ted Turner, who owns a huge ass ranch in Montana, and he started out, as a humanities student, turned, business degree, due to his father's pressure, to do something practical with his education, not just wasting his educational pursuits in the arts . . . and, what, pray tell, do you think, led him to take old movies, black and white, and add color to them? A movie or art history class? perhaps? But, in the interview, Mr. Turner, spoke highly of the great worth, his liberal education was, and attributed much of his success as a business man, to his humanities classes, in combination with his business, masters degree, I think he combined his undergraduate studies in some art, with an MBA. Many, corporations, and medical schools, are realizing, teaching business or medicine, is only part of the endeavor, only takes them half of the way, to where the goals of the organization is . . . you can have a great product, but lack the savvy to sell it, or you can train an amazing surgeon, but with a bad bedside manner, he can not only cause problems with patients, but create, major issues with the hospital.
Speaking of Halloween masks and presidents . . . one of the complaints about Hillary, and other candidates, is that, they understand she is the most qualified, but, she lacks that human quality, that say, a President Obama, had, who is charming, people oriented, that is unless his is dealing with a Republican controlled, Congress! LOL! But, people skills matter . . . statistics show, that 75% of the people fired from their jobs, could do the fucking job, but they just could not get along with the other staff, employees, and thrive in a worth environment. I for one, got a communications minor, and learned, many of the skills, some would accuse me of failing to use, but at least, I have the communication, writing, and skills necessary, to take what I learned, what, 30 years ago, and bring those lessons, right up to date, and apply them to the present, because, people, are people! Several of the lessons, I have conveyed, in this blog, are the fact that, as humans, we often, project, who we are onto the people in our lives, spouses, friends, strangers, and that can be to our benefit, or to our detriment, but to know the concept, and to be able, to step back, and self, analyze is a powerful thing. Knowledge is POWER . . . we need to empower students, giving them the skills, to not only get a degree, and job, but to keep it!
Incalculable Human Loss . . . Climber Falls to Death
Every day, we see, the problems that result from, a job situation, like the one at the local, news station, that just had two employees, gunned down, by a fellow employee, disgruntled, who felt discriminated against, and hurt at being fired from his job. One of the things, that was reported, but, probably, went unnoticed, was the fact that, the camera man, had laughed, and filmed the firing of the shooter, and I can't remember, what exactly the female did, smirk, or made some, very slight, discriminatory remark, but look what happened, not only to the shooter, but to the co-workers. The humanities, just like the word, implies, can bring, students, people from all walks of life, to a more human, treatment and understanding of other human beings, making them, more tolerant, more community oriented, less materialistic, and more into their job. Just this morning, in the newspaper, a former, journalism student, who graduated from the University of Montana, and then volunteered for the Innocence Project . . . finding convicted criminals, incarcerated and taking on their cases, but, they were reeling with the loss of this young man! He was a true humanitarian, he took his job serious, and his pay, originally, that only covered, part time, didn't deter him from spending 60 to 80 hours a week on his job, that he was so good at, and will be soooo missed! He was a humanities student, graduate, and citizens who lived, breathed and sadly died, serving his fellow humans!
God rest his wonderful soul, we can all share in the loss of this great man, and mourn the whole he will leave, not only now with his passing, but what he could have and most likely would have contributed to this human exeperience . . . SOB!!!!!!! The world needs people like Veysey! Hopefully, an equally, wonderful human, will take his place, at the INNOCENCE PROJECT, with all their pro bono attorneys! I think it would be an interesting study, for a bar association or a law school, who track their students, that they have bragging right to, and see, compare and publish, the results of the types of lawyers, who serve in public defenders offices, non-government organizations, pro bono work, service oriented law practice, or who are like me, seeing their license to practice law, as a license to SERVE! With or without a retainer, without an discussion of money, without much concern for payment of my services, I SERVED! My clients, who were pro bono, got the same service, the best I could do with the time allotted, as my paying clients, and for every dollar, I got paid, I gave $100 hours of free service!
Law Is a Business . . . Law is to Heal Relationships
My concern, was always, always, always, for the crisis of the client, for the issue at hand, the legal points and education the case could make, and I loved every second . . . when I was falsely imprisoned, by Judge Lyle Anderson, rather than discus, what I was arrested for, allegedly contempt of court, for appealing his ruling and my clients case, with me, seeing it more as contempt for court, the judge, having broken at least 30 laws in arresting me, and by the time of the hearing, 9 days, later, after being held in solitary confinement, questioned me on my financial practices as an attorney, wanting to punish me, for, constitutionally appealing his ruling, my right, my client's, right, he asked me, if I had a billing practice or pattern . . . no. Do you take retainers . . . sometimes, if they can afford it. Do you have a secretary to do your billing for you? No. How do you make your money? I have two good paying clients, and the rest of them are basically free, unless they can afford to pay.
The judge and the Jewish attorney, no racial or cultural inference made, just looked at me, like I was from another planet. I seriously don't think they believed me. I told the judge, that I was so busy, never intended to take anyone but Brock as my client, but with people begging me to represent them, that I just helped them as I could, and did what I could, and the money, was really never an issue. HE didn't believe me, and later, wrote some kind of order, allowing, 4 sheriffs, to raid my home, of some of the things, I mentioned that I had by way of personal property and assets, my art, my truck, my electronics, etc. He had the sheriffs take, not only my truck, the tools of the trade, which is illegal, but they walked through and stripped my house of everything they wanted, amounting to $20,000!
My client, had not paid me, the agreed $500 per month, since November, and it was March, and I was basically thrown under the bus, by my client, who was making at least, $15,000 per month alimony, took a deal with the FBI, and withdrew her appeal, which was the document and due process action that protected me from the judge! He wanted to order me to pay, $850 per hour, for the Jewish law firm, who lied about the number of private investigators, hired by the husband, to track his wife's movements, and finally got one who could be bought, all others, said, no, Hope was not cohabitating . . . all the way around, a fucking bull shit, punishing, lie, deception, and cover-up, for someone else taking credit for me, writing, great new law, that helped determine if modern day dating couples, are cohabiting or not, affecting alimony payments . . . doubles got the credit and a Court of Appeals humanitarian, lost her life, because, she could NOT BE BOUGHT!

Slipping, Vocabulary Wise, Since My Undergrad
I have a great friend, named Amanda, who is also, out of place at the Poverello Palace Homeless Center, having two masters, and being a fitness trainer. Her and I have this sort of unspoken, humorous exchange at times, and commiserate with each other, but laugh, because with both of our credentials, neither of us, should be here, but find solace and comfort, knowing the other is also there. But the other day, we were talking about education, and I happened to tell her, about a master's class I had, in between my undergrad and law school, working on a master's degree, in family and human development. I told her I wrote this term paper, that was so heady, and complex, definitely, in a specialized, and scholarly, format, that I, later, was moving and found the paper, that I got an A on, being the first semester, master's student, in with about 16 other, students, that were all going on to their Ph.D programs, and how me and the professor, fought and battled, until one day, the Professor, slammed his hands down and said, I have had it, how many see it JoAnn's way? And out of the 17 students, 12 saw it my way, being pigeon holed into being a Freudian, Skinnerian, Behaviourist, or blah, blah, blah, and in my true, purple color, like in politics, I am neither, all, and somewhere in between! When he only got, 5 students, seeing it his way, he stormed out of the room with the words, I have never seen anything like this!
I ended up teaching, at the University of Utah, with my former professor, in the family and consumer studies department, J.D. the fast, cheap way to get your foot in the door at a university! LOL! But that class taught me that I was better at giving advice, than letting a patient/client, come to their own conclusions, like you are suppose to do, when counseling! Scream, what the hell are they paying me, at the time, the going rate of $75 per hour, if I can diagnose their psychosis, in 15 minutes! I kind of avoided social functions after the first one, welcoming me to the faculty, so, as not to offend a faculty member, and lording over him the fact that I was an attorney too . . . later to be fully made adjunct professor, being of worth to the department . . . I always thought I was an adjunct professor? I guess I lied on my resume, but in ignorance!
But, back to the paper I wrote, I told Amanda, that I found this paper, and read it, or tried to read it, and I didn't even understand what I wrote, it was at such a lofty, snobby, intellectual level, that I had somehow, lost being a lawyer, which is somewhat surprising. I told, Amanda, the KISS, doctrine, even applied to judges, that I was projecting . . . there is that concept, my knowledge and understanding of the law, onto the judges, making them smarter then they were, and found, the more simple I kept my briefs the better! LOL! The next day, Amanda, came to me, and said, she had read over the cover letter, for her resume, and job applications, and said, she was guilty of the same thing, and as she told me what she wrote, it was condescending also! LOL!
I have had attorneys, tell me to dumb down my resume, the Jewish lawyer, go figure, were complaining to the judge that my sentence patterns were too complicated and long . . . your a god-damned attorney for hell sakes, buck up, BUCKAROO! LOL! I answered their complaint, stating that I could not help it if these attorneys, only knew how to write simple sentences! LOL . . . perhaps, me calling them, letter of the law men, and making reference to the Law of Moses, pissed the judge and the attorneys off! It has all been worth it! LOL! I scored in the 200th percentile of the nations, adults in vocabulary, on a test, taken by another brainier friend, getting his Ph.D. in education!
