College Kids, Interviewed After The Last Election, Said that Republicans Are Racist, Bigots and Old Fashioned!
Don't these labels, somewhat concern the party? And, with the denial of confirmation of the Honorable Loretta Lynch, the first black, female, nominee for U.S. Attorney General, to lead the Department of Justice, the Republican led House, seems to be living up to and going beyond their labels, even as seen by young Republicans on campuses all across the United States. There was a great article in the Montana Standard, this morning, and I wish I had it in front of me, but the author was pointing out the changing demographics of America. There are fewer whites, more minorities, maybe soon to be the majority, the population is aging, and things are going to have to adapt to these changes, especially, political ideologies, philosophies, and terminologies. Just because the Republicans took over the leadership in the Senate, joining that of the House of Representatives, does not necessarily mean that people, the majority see things their way, it means, that the Koch brother's dark money had an impact, and not generally that the population voted for the Republicans, but against the Democrats, which is typical, going from one party to the other. Or perhaps, that the populous was sick of the Republicans doing nothing, a blocking any kind of progress, legislation and whatever, and decided, to give them a chance to see what they could do with a majority in both houses . . . and so far the results have been dismal at best. There is nothing more sobering, than being the place the buck stops, and taking all the blame and all the credit if things go either good or bad!
Ms. Lynch, is the top prosecutor, over the District of New York, with over 8 million people she and her department serve. She was not just confirmed once, under President Clinton, but again by a voiced vote by President Obama. She was given over 800 questions to answer from the Senate, and did so with flying colors; her professionalism, education, Harvard Law School, and her cases stand by themselves. She is the daughter of a preacher, and she was carried on the shoulders of her father, who opened his church to marchers for voting rights and other civil rights issues . . . we have an epidemic of white cop on black shootings in this country, even other countries are shocked and appalled at the brutality, militarization, and force that was used, not only in Ferguson, but had been used, formerly in Selma, Alabama. She can bring a solid voice to law enforcement, having handled one of the worst, cases of police brutality, when several New York cops, raped a Haitian man with a broomstick . . . this is unacceptable! We also have issues of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, not only on our streets but on our college campuses, and in our homes, and even worse, in our military!
Like the female students, at the University of Montana, voiced recently, that we demand a change! I know, as a former, Utah Assistant Attorney General, my presence, in a courtroom, or at a cops shop, or at a conference on domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault helped. I was over the Victim Assistance Program, in the Utah Attorney Generals Office, and was often asked by victims of domestic violence, especially by the wealthy rancher's son, the old football star, and a general bad ass that men would not mess with, to come to court, after being re-victimized by the local cops . . . hopefully things have changed in the last 20 years, but me just being there, holding her hand so to say, and with a judge and cops, having to look at me, and knowing I had the ability to go over their heads, and make things happen, changed the outcomes of trials, arrests, jailing and sentencing. One time this rancher, football star, and abuser, came up and pulled up his pants, showing me, his ankle monitor, and looking over the window of his jacked up truck, said, maybe I ought to abuse you, or go after you . . . I put my head in his window, and said, I dare you, I will have your ass in prison so fast, it will make your head spin . . . he drove away!
WE DEMAND A CHANGE! MS. LYNCH WOULD BE A GREAT ONE!
I have worked with U.S. Attorneys before, and there is still a close connection between, local, state and federal, cops and prosecutors, they rely on each other to solve crimes, and try cases . . . I understand that, but I also understand, that there is often this unspoken boys rule, that precludes women, or their inclusion in this silent game of keeping the power among themselves. I did not, personally, agree with U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, on the Ferguson, independent investigation. I have seen it too many times, both personally and in my cases, that the feds will cover for the local cops and prosecutors they have to have a continued relationship with. I think, that Ms. Lynch, a female and black, will never, belong to the good old boys club, as I have neither, and to me, justice is justice, and right it right, and wrong is wrong, no matter who is taking the actions . . . this is not the fraternal order of the police, defending anything that looks, smells, and acts like a cop, ZIMMERMAN! We need to restore trust, and trust in the office.
While I had issues, that had to go up to the state crime lab in Utah, and working with the FBI, who actually covered, the local cops, on voice recognition tapes, that I knew who they were, having only met them once, but the ACLU, did a study, at that same time and said, that nationally, state crime labs, were destroying exculpatory evidence or evidence that worked against the prosecutors and cops cases, and doctored evidence in their favor! This is not the way to bring trust, maintain trust, or re-establish trust! It is as if, the powers that be, know they will have to work with these guys again, and so they favor them, not justice! The whole justice system, no matter who's rights, crimes, issues are in front of the judge and jury, is to see that there is Justice for all, not just for a chosen few!
Righteous Kill . . . OH, REALLY?
Last night, I was watching to old movie, Righteous Kill, with Robert DiNiro and Al Pacino, both old seasoned cops. I fell asleep at the end, but DiNiro, had killed 14 people, he deemed worthless and druggies on society, worth killing, thus the righteous kill. These were rapist, murderers, child molesters, drug dealers, and such, not the top of the line in society. However, just as in the cop shootings of late, both black and white, I do not believe, that a cop can be judge, jury and executioner on our streets, as frustrating as that may seem, and how bad these guys are . . . that is just not our system and not your call! A rapist got off at the first of the movie, and he made faces at the cops, as he left with DiNiro, threatening him, and eventually carrying out the death card, he had dealt him. Now, I am sure that this is every cops fantasy to get the bad guys, that is what they are trained to do, and that is their job, but what separates a bad cop from a bad guy? I have seen criminals, that I would rather deal with than cops, many times. One of my clients, was dealing with the DEA, or the Drug Enforcement Agency, and he said, he couldn't tell who was more crooked the cops for the drug dealers? I agree.
When the guy walked, the cops had not done their jobs, the evidence was weak, and the prosecutor said that the cops had violated every rule of justice and evidence, and they didn't deserve a indictment based on the flimsy evidence that was provided for the prosecutors, who are not magicians, and should not get a win, in our system, unless, they have sufficient proof, to charge, arrest, book, jail, and try a defendant or suspect. We cannot have each cop a law unto themselves . . . that will never work, and you will have more incidents, like the two cops that were gunned down by the guy several months ago! This is about trust, about doing your job . . . anyone, can charge anyone with a crime, it is proving it that counts, even if you know damn well they did it, in our system, you cannot merely claim they did the crime, but you have to have actual proof of the crime, through evidence, testimony, facts, and witnesses!
This is not your game alone . . . they justice system, belongs to all of us. We have far to many adults in the prison system today, and maybe because cops and prosecutor games, and I have been a victim of them, and they are not fair, nor are they professional, nor are they American in nature, but some foreign fascist shit, that doesn't have merit in our books, in our laws, or in our courts!
