I was born, in 1954, on Port Hueneme Navy Base, California . . . I am not sure if that, is why, I am so different than all my family, born in Utah, and very Mormon, born and bred, Republicans! It seems to have made all the difference in my life, always committed to the country, to the red, white and blue, and seem to be born and bred, through, place of birth, nurture or nature, with an allegiance to the United States of America, loving, digging, and promoting it all my life, with almost, the principles, inside me, from the get go! I saw the visions of the race riots, the marches, the cops and the hoses, the hangings, the lynchings, the movies, that blacks were whites with their faces painted black, etc. Some 27 year old, the other day, asked me, shocked, if I lived through, the 50's, 60's, and 70's . . . all of them, and very shaped by the times, totally!
One night while I was saving money for college, and working at Howard Johnson's Hotel, in Salt Lake City, Utah, with very few blacks back in the day, I worked with a father and son, black, family, who worked back in the kitchen, me a waitress, but for some reason, I didn't have a ride home, and this father and son, where leaving after midnight, and going my way. Coming from a family of 10, and several teens, working, who needed transportation, at times there were conflicts, as was the case that night . . . I didn't think anything of asking, this father and son, if I could, hitch a ride home with them. They looked a me, paused, and said, ah, well, no. At first, I was offended, like what threat am I to you two? Rude. But, then, I remembered a movie, I saw, actually a few, where some black stud, just looked at some white woman, and he was lynched. The thought came to mind, that, they would, if they could, this was still the early, 70's, and racism was a hot topic issue!
me and my husband, managed, apartments in Tucson, Arizona, I was exposed to blacks, there and managing apartments in Salt Lake too. They were always nice, polite and cool. But, my exposure, was very limited, and always, basically has been, until, I went to Chicago, and now Seattle, because, Utah and Montana, really are not that integrated, nor is race much of an issue
now, in Ogden, Utah, a community, that serviced, Hill Air Force Base, there was at least, a black post man, who was so fun, and everyday, as he dropped off the mail, we shared stories and laughed and joked. I really think, that is where, Nicole, got the idea for a black Barbie doll . . . she saw that this man, was a friend, really probably didn't see, any color, but knew that this Barbie was like him, a great compliment to him! We smiled as she asked, being the color of the typical Barbie, blonde and blue eyed herself! LOL.
my husband, had a black intern, working with his city planning department in Ogden, Larry, we invited him over to Christmas Eve dinner, at our home . . . the night was filled with, laughter, and fun, stories of his years growing up in the South, and all the big black mama's at his church, who would greet him, each Sunday, grabbing his face and smashing it in their very voluptuous bosoms or boobs! He told us, stories of the deep South, black superstition, and stories of snakes, and voodoo, etc. I am sure that, had a huge ass effect on my kids, who just listened and watched, the interaction and fun!
my daughter, wanted to bring her best friend in the Navy home for a holiday, she didn't distinguish or say, that she was black, so, when, 6' tall, VAVABOOM, sexy, too sexy for her cat, black chick, came in, so funny, again, great fun, and Greta's then, fiancé, a former Navy SEAL, was terrified, because, she found him, hot, and not so out of her reach, we all got the biggest kick out of her antics and flirting! LOL. Later when, Greta was living in Althreta, Georgia, she needed a job, fast, with a growing family, and the obvious reasons, in life, to live, it was a black chick again, that, reached out, and hired her in a top, fashion shop, we were all grateful, worried from Utah
then, saying yes, to an inter-racial relationship, that broke up, basically, over him, voting for TRUMP, scream, after writing and fighting for Hillary, who would have thought? LOL.
