The Last Don . . . Gangsta Paradise

The movie, is basically about a mafia don, who has a rival family, who vies for control of the city.  Like Romeo and Juliet, two children, from the last two families, fighting over the turf and power in the city, fall in love get married, because she is with child . . . with both the new parents, hoping that when their two fathers see and share their new grandchild, they will put down their guns, hatred, and battle for control of the city and each other, and learn to work together, so that their joint heir, can live in family harmony and peace. That was fools love and a projection, that lasted, merely long enough for the wedding vows to be said, with the number one hammer for the bride's family, being the only member of the family to attend the wedding, but for other reasons that to show support for the new bride and groom.  The hammer, main gun for the mob, is merely there to scope out the other family, who was there, how many rivals, and there to orchestrate the alleged, clean up of the catering and decorating crews, really, gangsters, who came in a gunned down, not only the groom, taking him right out of the wedding bed, in one of the chambers in the rival don's mansion, but the bride could recognize her cousin, the hammer, by the red ball of fuzz on his shiny black dress shoes, coming to realize, that her family, had come, use the wedding to kill their city rivals, rather than the join in the joy of her wedding, with her begging her family not to do this, to spare her husband . . . to no avail, leading the killers, hit men, and thugs, to the sleeping chambers of the rival don, who knew this was his end, leaving on don, left to rule the city.

The Strong Blood of the Baby Born From the Union of the Two Mob Families . . . the Last Don, Sees the Trouble His Decisions May Have on the Family

The new bride returns to her father's house, in mourning for her husband, and the fact, that the feds have already contacted her, hoping she could reveal the nature of the crimes, on her husband's family, running from petty robbery, to murder . . . but, she knows better than to give up any of the details of the slaughter, and her father soon, ships her off to Italy to have the baby.  She carries a picture of her dead, loved, cherished husband, that she never again, recovered from his death, nor did she forgiver her father and her cousin, nor the other men, involved in the betrayal, the lies, and the murders, going to the wedding, under the idea, that while the don didn't approve, he did, finally give his blessing, but, he would not attend the wedding, nor would anyone other than the hammer or her cousin, going as some form of comfort, and allegedly, loving support, or so she thought.  As in all of life, it is hard, to decipher, or consider the long term consequences of what may appear as a black and white decision, that ends up fifty shades of gray, or the good, the bad and the ugly.  Soon after, the killings, the Don, sends the hammer, to Las Vegas, having been the man seen, and known to his daughter, as being the main man in charge of the slaughter of her husband's family.  In Las Vegas, he falls in love with a dancer/teacher, who is beautiful, smart, and he immediately faces up to the Don, without any hesitation, refusing to back down and be controlled by the Don.  She immediately gets pregnant, and she delivers a baby, about the same time, short a few months of the cousin and daughter of the last don, and there is family joy, when both these boys, are baptized as infants, even lay in the cradle together, with the daughter's son being raised in the home of her father, the Don, who is now an honored man, in the mob.  The other baby boy is raised by his mother and father in Las Vegas.

Eventually, the boys grow up, one protected from the family secrets, and their means and methods of making money, groomed to help in the 49% family controlled casino, working for the man, who owned 51% or controlling share, with the mob serving as a protection for the money making machine, that was bilking gamblers out of tons of money, with the mob, cutting paths of protection with government officials, law enforcement, and election controls.  The widow's son, seemed to be more interested in working with his hands, outside and working with the construction companies, that were controlled by the mob, but he was not as well groomed, with a mother, who was still bitter, at the love of her life, being gunned down by her own family, seeing money and power, as priorities over family, love, children, and she was totally honest with her son, told him, that his grandfather, he worshiped was a cold blooded killer!  From a young age, he grow in hostility, without words, to put to his feelings of rage, one time, the Don, his grandfather, found, 4 kittens the family cat had just given birth to, strangled and dead, and in shock and horror, that, there were early signs, that, this young heir of his daughter, who continued in her hatred for the family, passed that disdain, onto her son, who had strong genes, of killer blood from each side.  And as he grew, matured and understood, what being born in a mob family meant, by way of power, money, control, and killing, he seemed to take to it a bit too easy, and loved to kill, not just to do a hit, but to unload every bullet in his gun, to the horror of the others, who went with him, on his first mob kill.  His mother, continues, in her anger, attempts to take her life . . . and the boy, sees all of this first hand, as his mother, passes the revenge for her husband's life, onto her son, already well versed and trained in being a blood thirty killer, by nature and nurture.

His cousin, on the other hand, raised by his mother, the dancer, the mother that made her husband, promise to leave their son out of the family business, has lived a very sheltered and protected life, until, his parents divorce, with the father forcing the mother to give him one of the children . . . she knew by this time, he was a hit man, not just involved in the casino, but, with both children, far closer to their mother, and the father making her chose which child she will take and which she will leave, the son, sees his baby sister, clinging to her mother's dress, and at about 13, he decides to go with his father, as his mother and sister, goes to Idaho, where she has a teaching job.  The father does a good job, raises a very handsome, charming, nice guy, but eventually, the Don wants him brought into the family business, ant that means he has to prove his loyalty and kill someone, who has wronged the family.  He doesn't take to this ordeal well, but he supports his father, and makes the kill, not seeing any glory in gunning someone down, sitting in a car.  The viewer starts to see a distinct difference in the two young men, their attitudes, the different background, one coming from a family, that was built on love, and the other birthed on the blood and tragedy of hatred, between rival mob families.

LOVE IS AN EMOTION THAT IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED

You Can Only Protect Me, If You Are As Powerful As the Don Himself

THERE IS AN INFORMANT INSIDE THE FAMILY

Rose Marie, the widow, mother of the new hammer for the mob, finally leaves her father's home, spitting on the threshold as she leaves, terrified that her brothers will kill her, like they killed her young husband.  Pipi, the cousin, who planned the execution of her Rose's husband at the wedding, to avenge the death of the Don's son, who had been gunned down, was replaced with Dante, the ruthless son of Rose Marie and rival mafia family, son of the husband killed after his wedding, by his wife's brother's and cousin.  The Don could see the danger in Dante, who had teamed with dirty cops, and was informing him of the inside criminal and family organization.  Pipi's son, Cross, the cousin, born closest in age to Dante, was a very decent person, tried to save lives, but willing to take them, for a good reason.  When his father was gunned down, Dante pulling the trigger, then the dirty cop, on the mob payroll, framed some innocent black man, gunned him down, as the assailant, but Pipi, the father, who was retired by the Don, told to go to Vegas, get married, also knew of the danger, now that he was not the mob's hammer, and he knew the character of Dante, a lose cannon, and impulse killer, and he warned his son, Cross, to watch out, and not to trust anyone.

Cross, falls in love with a movie star, but kills her abusive husband, to free her, to save her, so she can finish the film, that he just bought mob interests in, with his sister, the movie star's attorney . . . both kids, raised by the mother, the temporary show girl, while she was getting her college degree, ending up using her teaching degree, after she left her mob husband, were really overall great individuals, driven by the family, if they did anything wrong . . . the son, would never have been in the mob, but for his father taking custody, and to his mother's death, he did his best to stay out as best he could, but eventually, killed the dirty cop and Dante, his cousin, knowing that, it was either him or Dante, so he killed both of them.  He was brought before the Don, to answer for killing the cop and the Don's grandson, both buried at sea . . . his word was law in the family, and he said there was no appeal.  Cross tells the Don, his father's uncle, who treated him like a son, that he had to avenge his father's death.  The Don, assured Cross that he had no idea of Pipi's, death, and he understood the dangerous Dante, knowing he had ambitions and an agenda of his own.  Cross turns over his interest in the Xanadu Casino and Hotel, buys his freedom and life, also of the Sicilian, he brought over and who helped him and guarded him.  The movie star, wanted to retire from the movies, take her autistic daughter, from the abusive husband, to France, meet Cross there, and get married and be a family . . . the end.

The Don's Parting Thoughts: I Wanted to Earn My Bread As a Man, With Respect.  I Never Thought I Would Kill a Man, Never Thought I Would Bury a Wife, and a Son, Nor Earn the Hate of a Daughter . . .

  • my family was my society
  • God was my punisher
  • it all worked out just like I planned it
  • oh, how easy it is, to fool the young
  • what a wicked world it is to cause a man to sin
  • I will trust my fate in the hands of God, to judge
Cross and his attorney sister, who had just become the head of Gladstone Productions, in Hollywood, met each other outside the Don's quarters, hugged, and the attorney, sister, who regretted that she never talked to her father, after going with her mother, and before his death, said, that she wondered what a Clariclucio could do, doing good instead of bad.  She realized that her great-uncle, the Don, knew that the production company, had reneged on a contract with Cross, and was not good for the promises, made by the head of the production company, who promised the brother, and his sister, that they would get 20% of the film, after spending $50 million to get the actress out of her troubles, and get production going again, so they could all make millions.  The Don, asked Dante, the cousin, what he would do to the production company, and he said he would cut the men up in pieces, to make them pay for the cheating, of the family. Cross said, he would take the deal they gave him and learn from it, because they give him his money back, and interest, when the husband, of the movie star, that Cross was in love with by now, allegedly committed suicide, leaving nothing for Cross to do to earn his money . . . that was their excuse, since it was all done, and staged like a suicide with the notes and everything.  Pipi said, he would buy the company.  Which is the option the Don took . . . Dante, decided to take matters into his own hands, and kill Pipi, a rival for the #1 hammer position, seeing that the Don, took his advice.  The Don, knew, that the mother of the two nephew's kids, the dancer/teacher, who stood up to him, before, the marriage to his nephew, back in the day, had raised the most decent kids of all, and so he orchestrated the production deal, to benefit them.

THE DON'S VISION WAS TO TURN BLACK MONEY INTO WHITE MONEY, PROTECT HIS FAMILY, THEN LIVE A RESPECTABLE LIFE, HOPING TO HAVE ONE OF THESE TWO YOUNG MEN, BORN WITHIN A MONTH OR TWO OF EACH OTHER, TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

  • do the means justify the end?
  • there is no short cut to success
  • a nation built on deception, can never stand!
  • at least the Don, loved America enough, that he washed his hands of a senator on his payroll, who was put in office, to get gambling legal across the nation . . . he had the votes in the Senate, but the President promised to Veto the bill, but the V.P., said if he were President, he would sign the bill . . . the Don was offended, for thinking so little of the mob, who would have that cloud of suspicion hanging over its head forever, if they were to assassinate the President of the United States.  He had the decency, to cut the senator off his payroll.
  • there was an interesting comment, that Hollywood, made the mob, look like child's play!
I SPIT ON THE THRESHOLD OF THE MOB!  THAT AIN'T NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS!  I RESPECT THE MAN OR WOMAN WHO PUNCHED A CLOCK, GETTING AN HONEST WAGE FOR AN HONEST DAY'S WORK MORE!
